“We are happy when for everything inside us there is a corresponding something outside us.” –William Butler Yeats
I find so much truth in this. Maybe it’s because i’m an artist, however i think this concept resonates with every type of person. It could be art, music, writing, film, nature, or even finding similarities with other people through friendship… but whenever we do find that “corresponding something”, it is so validating and encouraging. I think this small truth has really provided illumination and explanation for the things i enjoy and am passionate about.
What comes to mind first is the concept of creating; i serve a God who is a creator, and i have become a creator myself. There is something unique about producing a work which you are proud of. Sometimes these works can have so much of yourself invested into them that they are painful to part with. This may be because you have just actualized something that used to be confined within. In this case, you are not only finding that corresponding something, you are the one bringing it into being as well.
To apply the concept of the quote relationally: i find it very fun to interact and be friends with people who are opposite than me. However, at the end of the day, i really rely on and cherish those friendships with people who are on the same wavelength as me. I am kept sane by those who i “see myself” in. I suppose this just makes sense.
